I Corinthians 16 §

Paul expects that the church at Corinth (and in Galatia) will support the church at Jerusalem with an offering. It isn’t clear to me whether Paul himself expects to receive part of that offering. But he expects them to give it. More than that, he includes them in the work he is doing — they are “to put something aside” every week (verse 2).

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.

Ezra 9 §

Ezra knows that the sin of the people is so overwhelming that there is no way he can go before God… so he goes before God.

Ezra 10 §

Making amends for sin and changing our behavior in repentance should be done completely, openly, and without delay.

This is the first genealogy in the Bible that I am glad not to be a part of.
